We might be a little biased, but there’s no denying that a gin and tonic is one of the UK’s favourite drinks. But if, like us, you’re concerned about piling on the pounds then don’t worry. Both BLOOM 40% ABV gins are completely sugar free, which is great news if you’re calorie counting.

SO, HOW MANY CALORIES ARE THERE IN A GIN AND TONIC?

Our entire BLOOM Gin range is low in calories. In fact, our full-strength gins have 0 sugar and 0 carbs. A single serving of our London Dry Gin with tonic water is just 57 calories per 100ml (and only 48 calories with slimline tonic). If you’re not a fan of tonic, then a splash of lemonade is still only 71 calories per 100ml. That’s almost a third of the calorie contents of a glass of wine! (which is around 200 calories… thank us later).

 

 

WHAT ABOUT GIN-BASED COCKTAILS?

We also have cocktail options that will satisfy your cravings while keeping your weight loss program in check. Our classic gin-based cocktails are good choices for those watching their weight – think 176 calories for a Martini, or 166 for a Hanky Panky (see our favourite cocktail recipes here). While that might seem a little on the high side, cocktails tend to be drunk slower than wine or beer, and get diluted as the ice melts. So it’s basically two for the calorie price of one.

IT’S NOT AS SYN-FUL AS YOU THINK

Slimming World’s massively popular weight loss plan has conquered the hearts (and bodies) of many, largely due to its clever way of optimising food choices. The benefit of this diet over the many (many) others is that you get “syns” for good behaviour. Your amount of syns (short for synergies) varies depending on your initial and target weight but most people have between 5-15 syns a day. A measure of BLOOM London Dry Gin is just 4 syns (slimline tonic is nil), so you can still enjoy your G&T without breaking your diet. A bottle of wine, by comparison, is a whopping 35, so if you are watching your weight, we suggest you be a savvy syner with your aperitif.

AND IT’S SAFE FOR THOSE ON A GLUTEN-FREE OR PLANT-BASED DIET

Celiacs take note: whilst some gins are made from grains, BLOOM London Dry Gin is completely safe on a gluten-free diet. Any trace of gluten is removed during the distillation process, leaving nothing behind. Oh, and it’s vegan too, so plant-based dieters can go wild. Just don’t go over your 14 units a week though.
